Levice Golden Onyx

We present a European rarity – Levice Golden Onyx, a unique European stone found in Slovakia. Internationally it is known by the trade name onyx d'or (golden onyx). The name comes from its typical golden hue, which stands out once the stone is polished. Golden onyx consists of translucent onyx marble in white-gold and honey-yellow tones, grading into yellowish-ochre travertine. The layers alternate vividly, creating a unique decorative stone for demanding applications.

Golden onyx is an exclusive decorative stone for interiors. Its translucency and fascinating golden colour make it ideal for interior window cladding or backlit reception counters in hotels and banks. Its nobility, rarity and ease of working allow it to be used for functional and decorative items such as desk and chess sets, pen holders, lamp and clock stands, paperweights, vases, bowls and glass sets. Onyx marble is also used for religious objects – candlesticks, holy water fonts and crosses. The material is suitable for small sculptures and costume jewellery as well.

Onyx marble is regarded as a rare raw material worldwide. The occurrence of onyx marble near Levice is unique in western and central Europe. Among the world's deposits, Levice Golden Onyx ranks among the very best for its aesthetic appearance. It is a European rarity and Slovakia's most original decorative stone. Thanks to its scarcity and the high price of finished products, it is a prestigious export.

All conflicts of interest and legal matters concerning the quarrying of the stone have now been settled; extraction is permitted and under way.
